3Dfacto presents paper at the International Conference on Economic, Technical and Organisational Aspects of Product Configuration Systems (PETO’07)

Ph.D. Thomas Randrup and Ph.D. Anda Binzer, both co-founders of 3Dfacto, present the paper entitled “Complex Product Configuration and Modeling of Geometry Objects” at PETO’07 held at Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH), Germany by 21-22 June, 2007.

This paper explores the technology behind the system VirtuBUILD as a state-based configurator related to complex product configuration and modeling of geometric objects. This technology used in VirtuBUILD comprises a particular data structure representing the parameter space, and an associated method to navigate the parameter space (also called the state space). In this method, all parameters are represented by state variables, which all have exactly one value at any time. The collection of values of all state variables is called the state and represents exactly one configuration of the product.

This paper and presentation will address issues behind this method and related technology, and there will be shown examples of the method in action.
